Hrafnagil, Eyjafjarðarsveit, Iceland
Hrafnagil is a small village in Eyjafjarðarsveit, northern Iceland.
Hrafnagil is an ancient manor in Eyjafjarðarsveit , the former Hrafnagilshreppur was named after the town but until 1863 there was a church and the vicarage of the district. During the Sturlung Age , Þorgils skarði Böðvarsson was killed by Þorvarður Þórarinsson at Hrafnagil around Christmas 1258 , the riot was considered very abusive and Þorvarður was very unpopular because of it. In the land of Hrafnagil, a village of the same name has now been built, with 270 people living in December 2019 . There is Hrafnagilsskóli , Eyjafjarðarsveit's primary school, and a social home. Geothermal energy is on site and is used to heat several greenhouses , but there are also boreholes run by Norðurorka that are connected to the district heating system in Akureyri . |
